When attending dance class just isn't enough, join a dance club! If you don’t know of any local dance clubs to join, start one yourself. There are many benefits to being a part of such a club, and I will give you 8 of them. You’ll have fun creating a mission statement for your club and determining the qualifications and any potential fees associated with it. But first, what can you do as a member of a dance club?
1. Meet with other dance enthusiasts to share dance dreams and experiences with people who love to dance as much as you do.
2. Take turns choreographing and teaching dances to other club members.
3. Organize public performances to showcase your choreography.
4. Organize a touring dance group and provide community services. As examples, these can be dance workshops for the underprivileged and special performances at adult care facilities.
5. Support local charities by providing entertainment for their fund raisers.
6. Plan occasional travel trips to dance conventions and competitions either as participants or just as spectators. These are excellent learning opportunities.
7. Attend dance concerts as a group. Meet at a nice restaurant for lunch or dinner, and then enjoy watching other dancers perform. Professional dance companies often have touring groups traveling across the country to share their repertoire of dances. Check with college theaters for upcoming events.
8. Design and sell dance memorabilia. Use the profits to sponsor a talented, professional dance instructor. This individual will be able to lead workshops for the club and for the community. Or, use the profits to create scholarships for students who cannot afford to pay for dance classes on their own.
You can see that there are some great benefits to be had as you look into starting a dance club. Make some new friends, enjoy some dance performances, and have a great time!
